Reshape and Transform Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers from Houston Uptown Dentists

A sensational smile sends a strong message. It says you feel confident about who you are and suggests warmth, success, and much more.

But not every smile is as perfect as what you see on magazine covers, on TV, and at the movies. That’s why Houston Uptown Dentists offers porcelain veneers. As one of our most popular and effective cosmetic dentistry services, porcelain veneers can help you reshape and transform a smile marred by cracks, chips, stains, or misalignment.

Porcelain veneers are made from thin discs of high quality dental porcelain and are bonded to the front of teeth to give your smile that dazzling, confident aura it’s been missing. The entire porcelain veneers process takes just two visits to our Houston dental office.

During your first visit, one of our doctors will talk with you about how you want your smile to look. She’ll also examine your smile and prep your teeth for temporary veneers. These are what you’ll wear while our lab makes your permanent veneers. They’ll give you a chance to get used to wearing veneers, and they’ll also give you a glimpse at your smile’s future.

Once your permanent porcelain veneers are finished, there’s just one more step before your smile is fully completed. For this last step, you’ll come back to our Houston dental office to have your temporary veneers removed and your new ones put on. Then, when you look in the mirror what you’ll finally see is the sensational smile you’ve always dreamed of.

Call Houston Uptown Dentists if you’d like to know more about porcelain veneers or any of our other cosmetic dentistry services. We’d be happy to answer your questions or schedule an appointment for you.

Tooth-Colored Fillings Are a Better Choice for Your Smile

For more than 150 years, dentists have been using amalgam fillings to restore teeth. Because amalgam fillings contain mercury, though, many patients and dentists—including our doctors at Houston Uptown Dentists—now favor tooth-colored fillings instead. Tooth-colored fillings are a more natural, esthetically pleasing, and conservative approach to restorative dentistry that benefits patients in the long run.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

One of the primary benefits of tooth-colored fillings is right there in the name—they’re tooth-colored.

But aside from their natural appearance, they’re also better for your dental health. Tooth-colored fillings, also called composite fillings, are made from a durable plastic known as resin. Unlike amalgams, which can change shape over time due to biting and chewing or changes in temperature, tooth-colored fillings won’t wear down or change shape. And because they don’t change shape or crack, teeth are protected from bacterial reinvasion.

What’s more, tooth-colored fillings require less drilling than amalgam fillings. That means that patients with tooth-colored fillings are able to keep more of their natural smile for years to come.

Are You Ready To Learn More About Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Houston Uptown Dentists is ready and willing to help any patients looking to find out more about tooth-colored fillings. Call our Houston office today to schedule an appointment with one of our doctors.

A strong smile is in your future!

Eating Disorder Case Study

In our last post, we talked about how anorexia and bulimia nervosa can have a significant impact on your oral health. The most well-known effects include tooth loss, erosion of the enamel on the “tongue side” of teeth, and jagged edges on the biting surfaces of the top teeth.

If you struggle with an eating disorder, then you may already be familiar with some of these. But if you’re looking for warning signs that a loved one is struggling, you may not know what these effects might look like.

That is why, for today’s post, we are presenting these photographs from a genuine case study.

In this first photograph, notice the thin, jagged edges on the biting surfaces of the teeth.

The next picture shows the patient’s teeth from the inside.

From this angle, it is easy to see what teeth look like when the enamel has worn off over time due to their exposure to stomach acid.

In this last photo, it is possible to see how treatment from Houston Uptown Dentists can improve a smile affected by an eating disorder.

We believe that treatment can and should begin during recovery in order to protect teeth. If a patient is diagnosed and treated at an early stage, enamel loss may be replaced with tooth colored materials known as composite resins. These are sculpted into place, duplicating or improving the appearance of the missing enamel. In other cases, more extensive treatment may be needed, such as overlays, crowns, or veneers.

If you would like more information or know someone else who would, please call our Houston office today. We would be happy to schedule a personal and confidential dental evaluation. We are passionate about helping patients restore their smiles and fight against eating disorders.

Restore Your Smile’s Functionality with Dental Implants from Houston Uptown Dentists

If you need to have one or more teeth replaced, dental implants from Houston Uptown Dentists can help. Dental implants are an effective, long-term restorative solution that restores functionality and preserves both the jawbone and remaining teeth.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

Unlike crowns, bridges, or dentures, dental implants replace your missing tooth root in addition to your missing tooth (or teeth). And because these implants are made of biocompatible titanium, they bond naturally with the jaw over time, ensuring that the resulting bite is as strong and functional as a natural bite.

For patients who are restoring their smile with implant-supported dentures, this means never having to worry about adhesive creams or about giving up on hard-to-eat foods. Moreover, dental implants can be cared for just like natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing. If cared for properly, your newly restored smile could last for a lifetime.

Visit Houston Uptown Dentists to Learn More about Dental Implants

If you’d like to know more about how dental implants can restore your smile’s functionality and appearance, get in touch with our Houston dental office today. Drs. Halloween is behind us now, but if you’re like a lot of other people, you may still have plenty of candy around the house. Maybe you didn’t have as many trick-or-treaters as last year and are stuck with more sweets than you would ever want to finish off yourself.  Or maybe your little one came home with too much candy.  Whatever your situation, maybe you would just really like to get rid of it all if you could.

We completely understand. That’s why Houston Uptown Dentists is participating in this year’s Halloween Candy Buy Back. Between now and November 30th, simply bring your leftover treats to our office, and for every pound you bring in we’ll pay you $2.00 (with a maximum of $20.00).

What happens to the unwanted candy? All of it will be collected and donated to Operation Shoebox, which will send the candy overseas to members of the U.S. Military.
